Reader,
I’m a book geek. I love to read.
Recently, I was re-reading Life is in the Transitions by Bruce Feiler. In his book, he estimates we spend 15–25 years of our lives in transition. (!!)
When disruptors or changes start to stack up, he refers to them as lifequakes. Each lifequake takes about five years to reorient. (Note: This book was written before 2020. I suspect we spend more time in transition than ever before.)
That’s decades of living in the in-between.
The chapters where you feel like a stranger in your own life.
The landmarks are gone; roles are shifting. And what once felt solid no longer holds.
This is where so many of us are right now, on both an individual and collective level.
In fact, two weeks ago, I spent three hours giving almost 30 mini tarot readings at a local women’s event.
Most of them were in transition – in the space between The World (endings) and The Fool (beginnings).
Divorces. Caregiving. Job loss. New babies. Deaths. So many endings, but no “new beginnings.”
Many carried shame for not being “through it” fast enough.
When I said, “It takes about five years to reorient after a major life event,” you could see their shoulders drop, tears form and a sense of relief washed over them.
We turned to the cards, not to predict when the new beginning would happen, but for small anchor points to help them navigate the months ahead.
Things end. And it can take a long time before the next thing begins. That shift is not necessarily meant to happen right away.
The key to navigating it all isn’t to put your life on pause until you have absolute clarity.
Instead, you have to develop the awareness and skills to live inside the in-between.
Transition isn’t a void where we stop everything until we know exactly what’s next nor is it the time to push things forward to make them happen.
It’s a space where wisdom and lived experience become possibilities. Where you get to decide what matters to you now and shape your life and work around that.
Here’s the card layout I used at the event:
What do I need to anchor into for the last two months of 2025?
I pulled two cards. For some people, it was one card for November and one card for December. For others, it was the overall anchor for the first card and the second card was a deeper meaning to the first card.
P.S. I’d love to hear what cards come up for you. Hit reply and share them with me!✨
