🌟 Your questions are holding you back

Reader,

The most important part of a reading isn’t the card you pick, but the question you ask.

In most 101 tarot or oracle card courses, the first thing they teach you is how to draw a card.
You’re told to clear the deck and shuffle the cards.
Then you ask your deck a question and pick a card.

The totality of that lesson is usually no more than a blink of an eye and then the teacher is on to other things – the meat of the course.

Great – except. The problem is creating a good question is actually really hard. And the details of how to do that are usually completely skipped over.

So why does this even matter? Because the question is where it all falls apart.

There are two types of questions that you’re most likely to bump into in the world of cards.

First are the close ended questions. Things like:

  • Yes or No: Should I ____? Is this right for me?
  • Mind readers: What do they think about ______? What is my partner planning to do about _______?
  • Outcome or time predictive: Will _____ happen? When? Will I get ______ ?
  • Permission seeking/decision: Should I do _____? Should I say something?

When people first start out with cards, they’re usually inclined to ask these types of questions.

And they’re called close-ended questions for a reason because there’s nowhere for them to go. There’s only so much information you can bring through. The question ends up boxing you in and pre-decides the scope of what’s able to come through the cards.

Close-ended questions were the norm when I started working with cards forever ago. However, a few years after I started learning there was a movement and a shift toward asking open-ended questions – like:

  • Daily/general draw prompts: What do I need to know today? What energy should I be aware of right now?
  • Self-reflection openers: What is my biggest block right now? What am I not seeing about this situation?
  • Decision-making: What is the likely outcome if I choose A?" / "...if I choose B?"
  • Advice-format: What is the obstacle toward achieving what I want? How can I align my goal with my soul purpose or spiritual path?

As you can see, the open-ended questions don't pre-decide what answer is going to come through. They give you more room to explore and there’s multiple directions you can go with what comes up.

And… they’re still not enough.

The pitfall of the open-ended question is that they just give us more information. And while more information can be helpful, what we often are looking for or needing is movement.

So, a good question needs to help us get to the core of the issue and move forward, not just collect information. And a good question is so powerful that it can change how you see things before you even draw a card.

Now, I want to be clear. The question examples above aren’t “bad”. If you’ve been using them, you’re not doing anything wrong.

But, the simple questions that we are introduced to when we first start to learn, won’t hold the weight of our tarot practices in the long run. And they certainty won’t carry us through a lifequake or uncertain times.

If you’re finding that the questions you’re asking your cards aren’t giving you the insights and answers that you need, then you already know something needs to change.

That’s where Your Deck Wants to Talk comes into play. It’s a free 60 minute workshop where I’m going to teach you how to go beyond the close-ended and open-ended questions that are so popular and dive into a whole new way of working with your oracle and tarot decks.

Because changing our questions changes the answers we receive. We can open doors and access things that we wouldn’t have been able to before, all with this simple shift.
